One evening I came out of SAW Gallery in Ottawa and was struck by the light around me. The sky was dramatic and across the street was a sandstone garage with a green lit stairwell. I just stopped and gazed. I painted this spontaneously, no drawing nor forethought, just trying to get the colours down as they came to me. I realized after I finished how many entries and exits there are within the painting yet nothing is happening. It is a painting of potential.
