A painting is a collection of choices. The artist’s.

You see a landscape, table or smile because the artist decided that’s what you’d see AND how you’d see it. The artist wants to communicate something to you.

The viewer responds. The artist has no control over this nor valid comment.

The viewer is necessarily part of the piece. It is the viewer experience constellated by the piece that is important.

I believe the more the viewer brings to the image, the more value it has. The more it communicates.

So I don’t want too much detail or precision present. I want to stimulate imagination, reflection and feeling.

To present choices, not choose for the viewer.
